Quran

The Quran, also romanized Qur’an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from Allah. It is organized in 114 chapters, which consist of verses.

About Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the Holy Book or the Scriptures of the Muslims. It lays down for them the law and commandments, codes for their social and moral behavior, and contains a comprehensive religious philosophy. The language of the Quran is Arabic.

Besides its proper name, the Quran is also known by the following names: al Kitab (The Book); al Furqan (The Discrimination); al Dhikr (The Exposition); al Bayan (The Explanation); al Burhan (The Argument); al Haqq (The Truth); al Tanzil (The Revelation); al Hikmat (The Wisdom); al Huda (The Guide); al Hukm (The Judgment); al Mau’izah (The Admonition); al Rahmat (The Mercy); al-Noor (The Light); al-Rooh (The Word).

What Does The Holy Quran Contain

To the Muslims, the Quran is the Word of God and contains complete guidance for mankind. Much of the Quran is about God, His attributes and man’s relationship to Him. But it also contains directives for its followers, historical accounts of certain prophets and peoples, arguments for accepting Muhammad as a genuine Prophet and good news for the believers and warnings for the disbelievers. Broadly speaking, the contents of the Holy Quran fall into five main categories:

  • Nature of the Spiritual World
  • The Law and Commandments
  • Historical Accounts
  • The Wisdom
  • The Prophecies

Surahs And Verses

The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs or Chapters and each Chapter consists of individual Ayaat or verses.

There are in total 6,348 verses in the Holy Quran. The Surahs are of varying lengths, some consisting of a few lines while others run for many pages.

Surah al Baqarah (Ch.2) is the longest Chapter comprising 287 verses while Surah al Kauthar (Ch. 108) is the shortest with only four verses including the tasmia.

The text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1400 years. And this is not strange since God says in the Holy Quran that He Himself will guard this book:

“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (15:10)

Ta, Seen, Meem. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [1]
These are the verses of the clear Book. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [2]
Perhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [3]
If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [4]
And no revelation comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [5]
For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [6]
Did they not look at the earth - how much We have produced therein from every noble kind? Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [7]
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [8]
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [9]
And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], "Go to the wrongdoing people - Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [10]
The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allah?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [11]
He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [12]
And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [13]
And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [14]
[Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [15]
Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [16]
[Commanded to say], "Send with us the Children of Israel."'" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [17]
[Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life? Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [18]
And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [19]
[Moses] said, "I did it, then, while I was of those astray. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [20]
So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [21]
And is this a favor of which you remind me - that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [22]
Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [23]
[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [24]
[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [25]
[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [26]
[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [27]
[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [28]
[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [29]
[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [30]
[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [31]
So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [32]
And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [33]
[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [34]
He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [35]
They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [36]
Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [37]
So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [38]
And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [39]
That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [40]
And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [41]
He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [42]
Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [43]
So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [44]
Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [45]
So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [46]
They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [47]
The Lord of Moses and Aaron." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [48]
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [49]
They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [50]
Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [51]
And We inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [52]
Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [53]
[And said], "Indeed, those are but a small band, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [54]
And indeed, they are enraging us, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [55]
And indeed, we are a cautious society... " Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [56]
So We removed them from gardens and springs Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [57]
And treasures and honorable station - Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [58]
Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [59]
So they pursued them at sunrise. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [60]
And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, "Indeed, we are to be overtaken!" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [61]
[Moses] said, "No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [62]
Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [63]
And We advanced thereto the pursuers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [64]
And We saved Moses and those with him, all together. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [65]
Then We drowned the others. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [66]
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [67]
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [68]
And recite to them the news of Abraham, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [69]
When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [70]
They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [71]
He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [72]
Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [73]
They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [74]
He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [75]
You and your ancient forefathers? Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [76]
Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [77]
Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [78]
And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [79]
And when I am ill, it is He who cures me Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [80]
And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [81]
And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [82]
[And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [83]
And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [84]
And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [85]
And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [86]
And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [87]
The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [88]
But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [89]
And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [90]
And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [91]
And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [92]
Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [93]
So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [94]
And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [95]
They will say while they dispute therein, Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [96]
"By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [97]
When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [98]
And no one misguided us except the criminals. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [99]
So now we have no intercessors Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [100]
And not a devoted friend. Ash-Shuara ( The Poets ) [101]
