Quran

The Quran, also romanized Qur’an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from Allah. It is organized in 114 chapters, which consist of verses.

About Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the Holy Book or the Scriptures of the Muslims. It lays down for them the law and commandments, codes for their social and moral behavior, and contains a comprehensive religious philosophy. The language of the Quran is Arabic.

Besides its proper name, the Quran is also known by the following names: al Kitab (The Book); al Furqan (The Discrimination); al Dhikr (The Exposition); al Bayan (The Explanation); al Burhan (The Argument); al Haqq (The Truth); al Tanzil (The Revelation); al Hikmat (The Wisdom); al Huda (The Guide); al Hukm (The Judgment); al Mau’izah (The Admonition); al Rahmat (The Mercy); al-Noor (The Light); al-Rooh (The Word).

What Does The Holy Quran Contain

To the Muslims, the Quran is the Word of God and contains complete guidance for mankind. Much of the Quran is about God, His attributes and man’s relationship to Him. But it also contains directives for its followers, historical accounts of certain prophets and peoples, arguments for accepting Muhammad as a genuine Prophet and good news for the believers and warnings for the disbelievers. Broadly speaking, the contents of the Holy Quran fall into five main categories:

  • Nature of the Spiritual World
  • The Law and Commandments
  • Historical Accounts
  • The Wisdom
  • The Prophecies

Surahs And Verses

The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs or Chapters and each Chapter consists of individual Ayaat or verses.

There are in total 6,348 verses in the Holy Quran. The Surahs are of varying lengths, some consisting of a few lines while others run for many pages.

Surah al Baqarah (Ch.2) is the longest Chapter comprising 287 verses while Surah al Kauthar (Ch. 108) is the shortest with only four verses including the tasmia.

The text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1400 years. And this is not strange since God says in the Holy Quran that He Himself will guard this book:

“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (15:10)

By the star when it descends, An-Najm ( The Star ) [1]
Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, An-Najm ( The Star ) [2]
Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. An-Najm ( The Star ) [3]
It is not but a revelation revealed, An-Najm ( The Star ) [4]
Taught to him by one intense in strength - An-Najm ( The Star ) [5]
One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form An-Najm ( The Star ) [6]
While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. An-Najm ( The Star ) [7]
Then he approached and descended An-Najm ( The Star ) [8]
And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. An-Najm ( The Star ) [9]
And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. An-Najm ( The Star ) [10]
The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. An-Najm ( The Star ) [11]
So will you dispute with him over what he saw? An-Najm ( The Star ) [12]
And he certainly saw him in another descent An-Najm ( The Star ) [13]
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - An-Najm ( The Star ) [14]
Near it is the Garden of Refuge - An-Najm ( The Star ) [15]
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. An-Najm ( The Star ) [16]
The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. An-Najm ( The Star ) [17]
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. An-Najm ( The Star ) [18]
So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? An-Najm ( The Star ) [19]
And Manat, the third - the other one? An-Najm ( The Star ) [20]
Is the male for you and for Him the female? An-Najm ( The Star ) [21]
That, then, is an unjust division. An-Najm ( The Star ) [22]
They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. An-Najm ( The Star ) [23]
Or is there for man whatever he wishes? An-Najm ( The Star ) [24]
Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. An-Najm ( The Star ) [25]
And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves. An-Najm ( The Star ) [26]
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names, An-Najm ( The Star ) [27]
And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all. An-Najm ( The Star ) [28]
So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life. An-Najm ( The Star ) [29]
That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided. An-Najm ( The Star ) [30]
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] - An-Najm ( The Star ) [31]
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him. An-Najm ( The Star ) [32]
Have you seen the one who turned away An-Najm ( The Star ) [33]
And gave a little and [then] refrained? An-Najm ( The Star ) [34]
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? An-Najm ( The Star ) [35]
Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses An-Najm ( The Star ) [36]
And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] - An-Najm ( The Star ) [37]
That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another An-Najm ( The Star ) [38]
And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives An-Najm ( The Star ) [39]
And that his effort is going to be seen - An-Najm ( The Star ) [40]
Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense An-Najm ( The Star ) [41]
And that to your Lord is the finality An-Najm ( The Star ) [42]
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep An-Najm ( The Star ) [43]
And that it is He who causes death and gives life An-Najm ( The Star ) [44]

And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation An-Najm ( The Star ) [47]
And that it is He who enriches and suffices An-Najm ( The Star ) [48]

And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing. An-Najm ( The Star ) [52]

And covered them by that which He covered. An-Najm ( The Star ) [54]
