Quran

The Quran, also romanized Qur’an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from Allah. It is organized in 114 chapters, which consist of verses. 

About Holy Quran

The Holy Quran is the Holy Book or the Scriptures of the Muslims. It lays down for them the law and commandments, codes for their social and moral behavior, and contains a comprehensive religious philosophy. The language of the Quran is Arabic.

Besides its proper name, the Quran is also known by the following names: al Kitab (The Book); al Furqan (The Discrimination); al Dhikr (The Exposition); al Bayan (The Explanation); al Burhan (The Argument); al Haqq (The Truth); al Tanzil (The Revelation); al Hikmat (The Wisdom); al Huda (The Guide); al Hukm (The Judgment); al Mau’izah (The Admonition); al Rahmat (The Mercy); al-Noor (The Light); al-Rooh (The Word).

What Does The Holy Quran Contain

To the Muslims, the Quran is the Word of God and contains complete guidance for mankind. Much of the Quran is about God, His attributes and man’s relationship to Him. But it also contains directives for its followers, historical accounts of certain prophets and peoples, arguments for accepting Muhammad as a genuine Prophet and good news for the believers and warnings for the disbelievers. Broadly speaking, the contents of the Holy Quran fall into five main categories:

  • Nature of the Spiritual World
  • The Law and Commandments
  • Historical Accounts
  • The Wisdom
  • The Prophecies

Surahs And Verses

The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs or Chapters and each Chapter consists of individual Ayaat or verses. 

There are in total 6,348 verses in the Holy Quran. The Surahs are of varying lengths, some consisting of a few lines while others run for many pages.

 Surah al Baqarah (Ch.2) is the longest Chapter comprising 287 verses while Surah al Kauthar (Ch. 108) is the shortest with only four verses including the tasmia.

The text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1400 years. And this is not strange since God says in the Holy Quran that He Himself will guard this book:

“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (15:10)

The Noble Qur'an » Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - المعارج

سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ المعارج [1]
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [1]
لِّلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ المعارج [2]
To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [2]
مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ المعارج [3]
[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [3]
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ المعارج [4]
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [4]
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا المعارج [5]
So be patient with gracious patience. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [5]
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا المعارج [6]
Indeed, they see it [as] distant, Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [6]
وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا المعارج [7]
But We see it [as] near. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [7]
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ المعارج [8]
On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [8]
وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ المعارج [9]
And the mountains will be like wool, Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [9]
وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا المعارج [10]
And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [10]
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ المعارج [11]
They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [11]
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ المعارج [12]
And his wife and his brother Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [12]
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ المعارج [13]
And his nearest kindred who shelter him Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [13]
وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ المعارج [14]
And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [14]
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ المعارج [15]
No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [15]
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ المعارج [16]
A remover of exteriors. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [16]
تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ المعارج [17]
It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [17]
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ المعارج [18]
And collected [wealth] and hoarded. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [18]
إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا المعارج [19]
Indeed, mankind was created anxious: Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [19]
إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا المعارج [20]
When evil touches him, impatient, Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [20]
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا المعارج [21]
And when good touches him, withholding [of it], Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [21]
إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ المعارج [22]
Except the observers of prayer - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [22]
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ المعارج [23]
Those who are constant in their prayer Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [23]
وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ المعارج [24]
And those within whose wealth is a known right Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [24]
لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ المعارج [25]
For the petitioner and the deprived - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [25]
وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ المعارج [26]
And those who believe in the Day of Recompense Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [26]
وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ المعارج [27]
And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [27]
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ المعارج [28]
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [28]
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ المعارج [29]
And those who guard their private parts Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [29]
إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ المعارج [30]
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [30]
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ المعارج [31]
But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [31]
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ المعارج [32]
And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [32]
وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ المعارج [33]
And those who are in their testimonies upright Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [33]
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ المعارج [34]
And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [34]
أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ المعارج [35]
They will be in gardens, honored. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [35]
فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ المعارج [36]
So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad], Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [36]
عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ المعارج [37]
[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups? Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [37]
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ المعارج [38]
Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure? Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [38]
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ المعارج [39]
No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [39]
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ المعارج [40]
So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [40]
عَلَىٰ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ المعارج [41]
To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [41]
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ المعارج [42]
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised - Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [42]
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ المعارج [43]
The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [43]
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ المعارج [44]
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised. Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) [44]
