Sudan Crisis – Emergency Response

Sudan Crisis - Emergency Response

Sudan is facing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Since violent conflict erupted in April 2023  tens of thousands of people have been killed, more than 14 million have been displaced, and over half the population now faces acute food insecurity.

In Darfur—especially El Fasher (North Darfur)—the situation has deteriorated sharply. Recent reports highlight ethnically-motivated mass killings, summary executions, and the destruction of hospitals and displacement camps. A maternity hospital was attacked, resulting in the killing of hundreds of patients and companions.

Healthcare access is collapsing. Hospitals have been bombed, looted, or occupied. Medical workers are being kidnapped, and displacement camps are under attack. This violence has left families already facing famine-level hunger without access to lifesaving care.

UMR's Emergency Response in Sudan

In response to this escalating humanitarian emergency, UMR has expanded its operations across high-need areas. Our work includes:

  • Supporting 15 hospitals across crisis-affected regions, each serving an estimated 100,000 people
  • Delivering essential medicines and medical supplies, including trauma care, emergency services, and maternal & child health support
  • Running nutrition programs to treat and prevent acute malnutrition among children under five and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers in IDP camps and host communities, supported by trained community volunteers
  • UMR is partnering with ILM group to provide food and food basket to newly arrived displaced people.

UMR remains committed to protecting lives, strengthening access to healthcare, and providing urgent nutritional support for the most vulnerable families in Sudan.
