Ramadan 2024

Pass the Plate

Empower a Community

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a time when many Muslims around the world observe a month-long fast. During Ramadan, observant Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and engaging in any other physical needs from dawn until sunset. The fast is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is mandatory for all adult Muslims, except those who are elderly, pregnant, breastfeeding, menstruating, or traveling.
The fast is intended to teach self-discipline and self-control, and to remind Muslims of the suffering of those who are less fortunate. It is also seen as a time for spiritual reflection and growth, and for strengthening one’s relationship with God. Many Muslims also take this time to read the entire Quran and to engage in extra prayers and acts of charity.
Ramadan is also an important time for community and family. After the fast is broken each evening, Muslims gather together for a meal called iftar, which usually includes dates and water, followed by a larger meal with family and friends. Many mosques also host iftar meals that are open to the community.
The month of Ramadan concludes with the holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which is celebrated with prayer, family gatherings, and festive meals. It is a time of forgiveness, generosity, and gratitude.

PASS THE PLATE THIS RAMADAN

Embrace the spirit of giving this Holy Month of Ramadan with UMR’s “Pass the Plate” campaign! As the sacred month unfolds, we invite you to be a part of our mission to extend compassion and support to more people than ever before.

The last year has been incredibly difficult on people near and far. Violence, disease, poverty, and so much more plague millions of people across the globe. Our goal this Ramadan is to touch the lives of those who need hope, faith, and compassion. Our mission is not just to provide immediate relief, but to create a long-lasting impact on communities.

🌙 Join Us in Reaching Across Borders:

The Holy Month of Ramadan is upon us again, and our goal is to touch the lives of the most vulnerable families in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, the USA, and Yemen.

🍽️ Feeding Hope:

This Ramadan, let’s come together to provide food baskets or vouchers to approximately 10,000 food-insecure households. Your contribution will prioritize those who need it most, ensuring that no one goes hungry during this sacred season.

💧 Quenching Thirst, Restoring Hope:

Across Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kenya, and Somalia, our WASH initiatives will improve water access, including constructing cisterns and revitalizing WASH facilities in schools. Your support can make a lasting impact on communities in need.

💼 Empowering Women and Youth:

In Jordan, Gaza, Kenya, and Yemen, we’re empowering women heads of households through training programs focused on home-based skills and entrepreneurship. Be a catalyst for change and uplift these resilient individuals.

👶 Sponsorship for Orphans and Unaccompanied Children:

Join us in supporting orphanages in selected countries, covering food expenses during Ramadan and providing continuous support for education, food, health, and accommodation. Together, we can make a difference in their lives.

👁️ Restoring Vision, Renewing Lives:

UMR aims to restore vision for over 1000 patients among the Rohingya in Bangladesh and vulnerable populations in Yemen and Kenya. Your generosity can bring the gift of sight and hope to those in need.
